I applied to Devonshires because I could see that it undertakes a wide range of practice areas but at the same time has quite a specialist focus. Having worked as a paralegal beforehand I was also keen to get some real experience and could see that the trainees here are much more than just glorified administrators. It was the interview process that confirmed my decision to come here ā I was made to sell myself as a person rather than as a list of accolades. I was also made fun of for my degree choice but I will hopefully get over that some day.
Since starting my training contract I have been thrown in the deep end but also fully supported, so it is a very well-balanced training experience. Client contact is pretty much immediate too ā another key part of the training ā and the work also varies hugely across departments. There are also lots of social and sporting events on offer so all in all you can get a lot out of the 2 years.
