Devonshires acted for Longshot Country Club Company Limited on the acquisition of Cherkley Court and Estate, the former residence of the Canadian newspaper magnate, Lord Beaverbrook near Leatherhead.

The Estate is steeped in history, with two round barrows; a tumulus, a section of Roman road and the mansion house itself. Winston Churchill was a frequent visitor during the Second World War with his own dedicated bedroom. The extensive grounds include ancient yew trees, two of which have fallen together to form a natural bivouac where Churchill and Lord Beaverbrook would drink iced champagne whilst discussing the war. Subject to obtaining planning permission, Longshot intend to create a country house hotel and a world class golf course whilst preserving and promoting the Beaverbrook heritage. Allan Hudson, Senior Partner in the Property Team at Devonshires acted on the acquisition.
