Devonshires has received a National Award from Sikhs in England as part of their Vaisakhi celebrations. The Making a Stand for Justice 2010 Award was presented to Partner, Nick Grant, at an open air celebratory event in Canary Wharf.
Devonshires organised a coalition of religious groups of numerous Christian and non-Christian faiths to represent their concerns to Government before the recent Equality Act was passed. Devonshires met with MP's, Lords and Ministers as part of the lobbying process and prepared a letter that was signed by 11 different faiths and was referred to in debate in both the House of Commons and the Lords.
As a result of this and the lobbying of other faith organisations, religious groups were granted the key exemptions that they were seeking.
Nick Grant said, "Faith Groups had serious concerns about the impact that the Equality Act would have on the way they operate. I am delighted that Devonshires were able to play an important role in co-ordinating a powerful religious coalition to represent these concerns at the highest level of government. I was extremely pleased to collect the 'Making a Stand for Justice' award on behalf of Devonshires."
