James is a Partner in the Litigation and Dispute Resolution Department and specialises in civil & criminal litigation, particularly fraud, armed forces and regulatory work. He acts for Registered Providers and others who have been the subject of fraud, carrying out detailed investigations, and tracing assets. He also acts for the defence - those who are being investigated or have been charged with criminal offences or who are being pursued for assets, either by public bodies, or by victims. Finally, he regularly acts for the Solicitors Regulation Authority in interventions into solicitors’ firms that the SRA have decided should not continue in practice as well as for solicitors who are the subject of disciplinary proceedings.
James has acted for numerous businesses that have discovered that they are the victim of fraud. From the initial discovery right through to the physical recovery of assets, he has experience of investigating and advising, including liaising with regulatory bodies and the police. Of particular use is his accountancy background, which allows him to deal effectively in a team of investigators, and gives him an understanding outside the traditional legal framework.
By also acting for the Defence, James has a very valuable insight into the arguments and tactics used by both sides.
In addition, James is presently acting for a large number of soldiers involved in the Historic Enquiries Team (HET) investigations in Northern Ireland.
On a wider basis, James also undertakes a wide variety of commercial and other litigation cases, including negligence actions and contractual disputes.
