What are free schools?
Like academies, free schools are all-ability, independent, state funded schools. However free schools are brand new schools that can be set up by different groups of people including parents, teachers and charities.
Why become a free school?
Free schools will enjoy the same freedoms as traditional academies, which include setting their own pay and conditions for staff, freedom from following the National Curriculum and the ability to change the length of schools terms and the school day. All free schools will be accountable like other state schools via inspections.
How can Devonshires help?
To set up a free school you will need to think about the application process, developing your business case, choosing the premises for your school and ensuring that your school community is a sustainable one. If you are interested in setting up a free school, Devonshires has the expertise to assist on all levels. We are currently acting for the first wave of free schools. We offer advice and support from the early stages of submitting a proposal to the Department for Education, through to establishing the school with the necessary buildings, staff and equipment.
