What We Do

Solar PV and Feed in Tariffs

What is the Feed-in Tariff (FIT)?

The FIT is a government backed incentive scheme designed to stimulate interest from private individuals and corporate entities (Generators) to invest in renewable energy generation.

FITs are offered for a 25 year period for photovoltaic (solar) technology and allow ordinary energy Generators to receive payments for the renewable electricity they generate. There’s a main payment based on the total output of the renewable energy produced (the Generation Tariff) - this is paid on the total output of the renewable energy system whether you feed it into the grid or use it yourself. And an additional “bonus” payment (the Export Tariff) based on the electricity that the owner puts back into the grid.

The FIT is also available in connection with other forms of eligible renewable electricity generation technologies.

How can Devonshires help?

We can assist by guiding you through the various legal and regulatory issues that need to be addressed when considering and undertaking a solar project, including possible delivery structures (such as delivery through a special purpose vehicle or a joint venture), procurement, property related matters and consent issues, which you may encounter.

We have specific experience in solar projects within the public and housing sectors. We are currently acting on a number of projects involving the installation of solar panels in social housing. These include both self funded and more complicated third party “rent a roof” schemes.

Being experts in the housing sector we are familiar with the likely issues for consideration by social housing providers. This extends to advising on matters such as the rules relating to the receipt of Feed-in Tariff payments in conjunction with public (grant) funding and any housing management matters.
