What We Do

Law Society / Solicitors Regulation Authority

Over the course of the last 6 years, Devonshires has been appointed by our professional regulators, the Solicitors Regulation Authority, to intervene into 27 different firms of Solicitors.  The grounds for an intervention are extremely varied - they range from suspected dishonesty of Solicitors, Solicitor's imprisonment, the abandonment of the practice to the Solicitor's bankruptcy.

We are appointed at short notice to act as agents of the SRA in taking possession of the practice's papers and monies, with a view to distributing them to those people beneficially entitled to them.

In addition, interventions often lead to substantial pieces of stand alone litigation, including asset recovery proceedings, applications by the intervened Solicitors to stop the intervention and applications by third parties for access to the practice papers.  Again, we act for the SRA in this litigation.
